Shared Office Space in Union Square, and a Floor of Your Own Nearby
Shared office space in Union Square means a desk or a small room on an operator's floor near 14th Street, where the 4/5/6 on Lexington, the Broadway N/Q/R/W and the crosstown L all stop. A Manhattan coworking membership is priced by the desk, from about $800 a month up to about $1,400, which is the range to budget with here. The draw is the commute: nearly everyone on a team can reach the square with one transfer or none. A team past about 15 people should also price a private floor nearby. The Union Square floors Nomad lists appear lower on this page, with sizes and published asking rents.

Why teams pick Union Square for a shared desk
The reason is under the park. The Lexington Avenue and Broadway subway lines and the crosstown L meet at 14th Street, so colleagues coming from the east side, the west side and the neighborhoods along the L all arrive without a long crosstown leg. For a company hiring from across the city, that widens the pool of people who will accept the commute.
The neighborhood does the rest. The Greenmarket fills the square four days a week, lunch is available at every price, and the office stock is small and boutique: prewar buildings facing the park and loft side streets running toward Broadway. The Union Square guide covers the blocks in detail.
What a Union Square membership includes, and what to compare
A shared desk normally comes with a chair, internet, cleaning, a shared kitchen, mail handling and some meeting room time. That list looks the same from one operator to the next, so compare the parts that differ:
- How many meeting room hours are included, and what the next hour costs.
- Whether you can get in at night and on weekends.
- How guests are handled, and whether clients wait in a shared reception.
- How loud the floor is at midday, and whether your room has a window.
- How much notice you must give to leave, and how the rate can rise.
Can a shared floor at the square grow with the team?
For a while. Adding desks is easy as long as the operator has seats free near yours, and each one costs the full desk rate. At that rate a team of twenty pays between $16,000 and $28,000 every month. Below about 15 people shared space usually costs less than a private office. Once a team passes about 20, its own floor tends to be the cheaper choice per head, and the meeting rooms stop being shared. Flexible lease or coworking works through the arithmetic.
The Union Square floors we list, and where to look next
Nomad does not operate shared space. What we list at Union Square are private floors, and the block on this page shows each one with its size and, where the rent is published, what it asks. Supply at the square is thin and good floors go quickly, so decide in advance what would make you move.
If nothing there fits your headcount, the neighboring hubs share most of the transit case: Flatiron and NoMad sit a few blocks north, and Chelsea is a short ride west on the L.

How much is a coworking desk near Union Square per month?
Budget $800 to $1,400 a month for each desk, the going range across Manhattan, with furniture, internet and cleaning included. A hot desk sits at the low end, a dedicated desk higher, and a private room prices each seat above an open desk. Operators change their rates often, so ask for a written quote.
How soon can a team be at its desks near Union Square, shared or private?
In shared space, within days, since the desks, the furniture and the internet are already there. A private floor that comes furnished or pre-built is normally ready two to four weeks after the lease is signed, with the search and the lease itself ahead of that. Where a floor needs a custom buildout, construction typically takes 10 to 16 weeks more.
Is a private floor at Union Square realistic for a team of 15?
It depends on what is open when you look. Fifteen people need about 2,625 rentable square feet at 175 each, and the block on this page shows whether a floor near that size is on the market. The Union Square hub has each listing in full.
Do we need a broker to rent a shared desk at Union Square?
No. Operators sell memberships directly. A broker is useful when you want to compare that membership with a private floor: on your search, we work for you, and in most transactions the landlord pays the broker fee.
